Any thoughts on repair

My awning has started to come out of the roller/drum(?) due to storm. I thought could just push rubber retaining cord back in but it's not working. I can't get lube (soap) where it really needs to go to help facilitate.Click image for larger version

We have a similar situation now with ours. Difference is that the fabric ripped close to 15" down the seam. We kept it together the last 3 years with Gorilla tape and then one of the vinyl repair tapes from Amazon. Last month while camping in hot weather, it started coming loose again and won't roll up evenly. I bit the bullet and bought a new awning fabric. For your situation, if you can get the plastic cord back in, I would definitely cover it with tape to keep it stable.

our awning ripped a few years back because of a storm. It 'was' in very good shape at that time. Talked to you insurance agent and he said, "act of God"... ie. our insurance paid for a new awning and the labor to install it.
