Awning holdown already there?
It appears that my awning has the ability to act as its own hold down poles. If looks like the cantilever arms disconnect from the wall and can be used as poles and held to the ground with a couple of spikes.
Can this be right??

Manual type awnings do work that way. Is yours manual?

Yes, the A & E manual awning is made to do this. I think it is called the carport configuration. Mine came with "U" pins to drive into the ground to hold the legs in place.

I have my AE/ Dometic at my Park Model attached to the deck all season.
Here is a method for securing your awnings. Not to be confused with OC brackets or Turbs poles.

So does the awning have to be in the up position and not tilted for this to work? I'm new to awnings and this Dometic 9100E scares the crap out of us as it flops and bangs all over with just a breath of a breeze.

Your Dometic 9100 awning to be used to its fullest needs awning poles and staked down with a 6"-8" tilt on one end.

That was on a manual awning. NOT GOOD AT ALL for an electric awning without poles.

You guys are awesome. Yes mine is manual and I can totally see how it would work as a "car port". Thanks for the info I think I will try it next time I have the awning set up.

Ok I didn't realize that as trying to watch it on iPhone. I will have to try and find a pole setup for this or figure out a way to make them. I'm limited with this busted foot of what I can do. The rope thing looked like it would work for the time being.

If it were me, I would forget the rope and putting the stake directly under the awning, I would use ratchet straps and put the stake about 5' out from the awning.
