Awning issue

We have a Forest River Cruise Lite 196 BH. Yesterday we extended our awning with no issues. Last night when retracting it we noticed it was slow. Today we extended it and it was slow but just now retracting it again it was barely moving. Should we grease it? Does anyone have any suggestions for us? I am afraid to even touch that button again.

Shore power. I could push it and it seemed to move up better. Was pretty windy.

Sorry... I guess I can't help you. I know mine works really slow on battery but works fine on shore power.

Just a couple questions...

Any chance the awning lilt knobs are tightened?

Any chance the battery is down? If you have a slide does it function normally? IE full speed

Do you have the ability to check battery voltage? 12.5+ minimum with shore power disconnected Charger/converter should put out about 13.2ish minimum. If either one f these numbers is off... The battery is bad or the converter is not charging/getting to battery.

I haven't changed the tilt knobs. I will look for them and see if I can loosen them.
I would ck the DC fuses if I can figure out which one is for the awning.
I dont have a voltmeter here.
Shouldn't it run correctly off the 30 amps shore power?
I will try connecting the tow vehicle batery and see if it runs faster. It would seem the awning motor isn't getting enough volts.

Thanks for the ideas.

If it works at all the fuse is good. The fuse panel should have an LED light illuminated in the event of a blown ATC fuse.

If the converter is not working correctly for what ever reason...the shore power won’t affect the power supply.

Booster cables would make it easy to connect. Make TRIPLE sure you connect them properly...you don’t want to connect wrong. I suggest NOT running your engine during this process. Others may say it doesn’t matter. They have never bought an alternator from this process...I have.

I predict the arm clamps or the battery. We shall see.

Also if in campground...a neighbor will have a meter. Offer to leave deposit if they hesitate.

Result= dead battery. Shore power didnt charge it for three days. Connecting truck via cable at the hitch didnt help either. Got the awning up by rolling it by hand standing on a stool.

Thanks for all the ideas.

Lesson= check battery before first trip in the spring.

Lol. Nothing a $100 won’t fix.

If you have no power at storage remove the battery and put on a small maintainer at home. They should last several seasons(depending on your style). If you unplug for 5-6 months or leaved hooked up it won’t be with you when you return.

Well, I also learned that the furnace needs 12v to start up, something about a sail switch, so we had a very cold night. When we came home Sunday, the tongue jack was also dead. Got the battery charged at Autozone, bought a voltmeter and used my trickle charger for about 9 hours. Now it reads 12.79 volts! Will re-install and test it all tomorrow.

Now you have figure out why the battery didn't charge when plugged into shore power.
