Awning Lift Handle, button not "popping" out

2008 Flagstaff TT. Not sure on the brand of the awning. We have a manual awning, with Awning Lift handles - that when you 'close' them, it pushes out a small button through one of holes on the support arm to hold the awning up at the height you want.

Both of our handles are not easily popping that button out into the hole, sometimes we have to lift/close, lift/close, lift/close several times to get the button to pop thru the hole (we line the hole up, so it can go easily).

Any ideas for repair, etc. Or do these need to be replaced?
