awning motor

Had alot of rain last night. Tried to roll up electric awning. Just got some motor noise and it would not roll up. It also made a loud pop like something broke loose. Husband had to get on a ladder in the pouring rain to roll it up. Does anyone know anything about these awnings??

I am very new to all this RV life. On the end of the arm it has " ae ". I am a "Mr. Fix-it". I just thought I would ask before I started taking things apart. Thank you.

awning motor

By the way, I am hapyhary, it was my wife who posted the original cry for help. This awning is on a 2009 Forest River, WildWood travel trailer.

The motor is at, standing outside look'n back at rv, on the right end......drill out the rivets, pull out motor and drive 'wheel'.......be-aware that the gas shock is fairly strong.....I replaced mine with the awning almost rolled up, and needed to use ratchet straps to support roller when pull'n motor out......a 2x4 wedged into arm also gave me a little more working room. Might be able to locate a used motor on E-bay....mine works better than the original. If you Google AE awning motor, you'll be able to see what it all looks like beforehand......

REWIND spring

I would almost bet it is the large awning re-wind spring. If there was a loud pop, that would indicate the holding bolt for the spring came loose letting
the spring unwind. The spring assist the motor in winding the awning up.

WARNING: Make sure you read the instructions for removing the large spring. It
has to have the safety pin installed before removing. This is a must!!

Shouldn't be any tension if spring let go....bump the awning switch out and see if the left arm lags behind....then try to determine if there's tension at that end, by manually unrolling roller...the gas struts might make that a little harder to do

Wow ! Thank you all for all the advice. I have the awning secured with zip-straps right now, just for safety. I will be able to get to it in another day or two. I will post my findings and results when all is said and done. Again, thank you all for all the advice.
