I think u can get step by step instructions by dometic on line. I just replaced my awning arm and its under considerable forward bias in the up position. If u release it from the control arm it will extend with the force of the Apollo rocket launch.

as my ring finger will attest. Here is a before and after repair shot:

enjoy your repair but be careful those warning stickers are there for a reason.

Proceed with caution as the awning is under tension. I replaced an arm and as noted pay particular attention to warning labels; the arm is strapped together with clear instructions when to release those. When we removed the old arm all the tension released from the awning. Discovered afterwards that there are holes to insert a pin and hold the tension. If released you need to wind the mechanism to reapply, which I found to be difficult.

Thanks for the replies...... this was about the simplest thing I've done on this unit so far. I guess I was thinking the tensioner was attached to the motor, but it's at the other end. Other than strapping the roller up, and letting the arm do it's thing.....opening, I can pull the arm back into place even with the gas shock attached. With awning rolled up there were no stickers visible.
