Awning noise

I have a 2014 Georgetown with the Dometic 9000 awning. It makes a loud bang noise when it comes out, as if something was binding. Dealer says it is normal and the only way to fix it is grind some of metal off different parts. Anyone else have this problem?

Our's is a 2016 8280WS with the Dometic 9100 awning. Same darned thing. Affects the support nearest the nose. The rear support has two sliding parts going out smoothly. On the "bad" one, the top slides out but the bottom catches then releases with a bang. I've lubricated well with silicone spray. Did you find any solution?

I lubricated everything including the rail with lithium grease and I still can't get it to come out quietly. I can't see where it is catching. The only thing I found is put it out slowly and it doesn't make quite as much noise. I can't believe that is normal, yet the other side is fine. Guess I need to try and contact Dometic when I get back from our trip. Haven't seen any other posts, so ours are bad or everyone else just lives with it.

The fabric is probably slid on the awning tube. Move to align better. When it goes in and out right pop rivet to stop the wind from sliding it.

Thanks for the advice, I will check that when and if it stops raining. At a KOA in Ozark, Al.. Been raining since we got here.

I have a 2011 Rockwood fifth wheel with a 20' awning. The banging noise is a common thing. I have learned to live with it. I watch the awning as it deploys to see if the bottom does release. If not, I restart the deployment of the awning. It is just I believe built in the awning to make a "BANG" at times. I believe it has to do with the gas pistons.

Pop rivet both ends.

Daisy, you need to center the material and pop rivet the ends. The popping is with the arms not seating properly.

What diameter and length of rivet did you use?

3/16" dia, 5/8" long, large head.

While you are doing this, inspect the arms very closely for possible worn spots and lube all the pivots with lithium spray. Look for any interference with the pins and the cutouts for the pins in the matching channels.

I messed with mine a lot and find when partly out, the rear support which works fine. The lower pushing rod has good pressure but on the front support the lower rod just sits there. Finally partway out it suddenly "deploys" with the bang. I could manually help it and it wouldn't bang. Wind came up here and I quit but the final time there was no noise. Maybe lubricant worked in? No problem with the covering slipping.
