Awning Problems

Have questions about awning. 2016 Grey Wolf 27RR Toy Hauler. Awning stopped working. When I extended manually with drill, no problem, when I retract with drill the gears just slip. I have to assist with plyers to make awning retract. Bad gears?? Is there adjustment?
Also, should awning retract over or under when rolling back in? Mine rolls over. Catches water and leaves when retracted. If it rolled under, it wouldnt catch anything.
Thanks for any help, trying to get ready for Daytona bike week 2020!

Mine rolls under. It's also electric..

If it's rolling over, I'd ask are you manually running the drill in the right direction?

Understand yours fills under. Mine is rolling over the top so when it rains water gets into awning wraps and causes mold trying to figure out if it’s backwards

I don't know why yours is acting up but when we bought ours it was rolled over and I soon discovered that the switch is labeled extend /retract but in reality, either way will retract if the awning is completely extended. The switch only controls whether the roller turns clockwise or counter clockwise. If the switch is held in one direction the awning will fully extend and then instantly begin to retract rolling it the opposite way it was.

I'm sure it should be roller up under so that the top will remain on the outside.

Agree with Bradmond. If you keep going it'll roll up the other way.

Yes, under so the outside (top) is always out.

Mine rolls under.

It likely wont solve your mold problem completely. I stored my trailer uncovered and every spring water would get in there and cause mold throughout the summer unless I let it air out every so often. I found water would find a way in and it was best to tilt the trailer front or back so it would drain better. I would bleach it in the spring and clean with a wood floor mop.

Hope that helps!

It doesn’t leak inside and cause mold. I’m just talkinking on the awning itself

Every awning I have ever seen rolls under. Something is wrong if yours goes the other way.

Whether or not the Awning goes under or over the tube when it's being retracted depends on the direction the tube is going. I wonder if you're turning it the wrong way when manually operating it.

It's simple physics.. once the awning is fully extended, turning the awning counter-clockwise would cause the awning to roll under the tube.

There is no intelligence in most awning motors. When you extend them if you hold the button too long the motor continues to run and will roll the awning back up in the incorrect manner. If the awning is extended and you hit the wrong button, the awning will still roll up only in the wrong direction, There is also a spring in many larger awnings that aids in the operation. Once you roll it up properly, it may work again.
