Awning Protection question

When I have the main entry door open it ever so slightly rubs against the awning. It's not much of a rub but I'm sure it will eventually become a problem. Raising the awning enough to clear the door results in it being too high and also exceeds the limits of the awning pole setup.

I'm not familiar with Eternabond tape but if I put a piece of that on the underside of the awning as a "scuff protector" would it be flexible enough to stay in place when the awning is rolled up? Or, anything else come to mind. I have some of the rubbery transparent "tape" we use on airplane winglets and radomes to protect the non-heated portion but it always yellows with age (about a year or so).
