Awning Roller Misaligned

Hey gang -

Hoping to get some help here with an awning issues on my 26' Shasta Revere. Awning won't close evenly against the trailer. I did a search and all of the similar threads I found were due to the awning being out of place in the track (fore or aft), but that doesn't appear to be what I have going on.

My problem is that when the back arm/roller is closed flush against the trailer, the front of my awning is still about 6 inches out. I accidentally closed the awning last season with that front arm locked and it made a popping noise and has been out of whack ever since. I'm taking a 900 mile trip from PA to WI in July and I'm concerned that the constant wind will eventually pull at the exposed awning and make it worse.

I did have my dealer look at it and they thought it was a bent arm and want to try a $400 repair. There is no visible deformity in the arm and I'm not entirely convinced that this is the issue. I can't pretend to know the inner workings of the awning, but it seems like I may have skipped a gear tooth or something when I tried to close it locked.

Is there any way to disengage and recalibrate these closing mechanisms before I start throwing money at it?

Thanks!

Jim

I suspect like you said a bent arm. I did almost the same thing except the bottom of my awning arm stays out about 4" on the back arm. I tried everything I knew to correct this problem short of ordering new arms. I ended up drilling two small holes at the bottom of the main mountains rail (against the rig) and use a small bungie (bungie hooks in holes) to hold the arm against the trailer during travel. the slight bend does not effect the operation of the awing opening or closing.

Thanks, SeaDog. Was your awning arm visibly deformed? Mine appears perfectly straight when I push it against the camper.

I could not actually see a bend I think it caused a slight bow in the arms but looking at it does not show anything obvious.

My awning has never aligned properly enough for the arms to fully close. It's like the awning fabric is mis-shaped. I've tried adjusting the position of the fabric on the roller. A small adjustment one way and one arm will not close all the way. Adjust 1/4" back the other way and the other arm doesn't close and it binds up. There's no happy medium. I'm thinking the trailer side mounts were mounted incorrectly, too close together. Best I can do is having one arm about 1.5" out at the top when fully closed. Good enough until it takes a crap and gets replaced.

My awning also is “wrinkled “ when I roll it in but it seems to suck up to rv fine. I have a 2016 forest River lacrosse and everyone tells me it needs to be re-rolled already. Is this normal for an only 3 year old awning. Also flaps constantly in the slightest wind but there is no top bar anymore to put the de-flapper things.
