I recently purchased a 2011 Shamrock 21ss with power awning.Well when pulling out the other day I caught the rear support arm on the fence causing the middle two rivets on the support to pull out.Took it to the dealer thinking it would be a quick fix but they said the whole support arm needs to be replaced and it would be $550.The awning still extends and retracts but right at retracting all the way I have to push it in. I tried using screws to see if that would work but they keep pulling out.Anyone have any suggestions.Please help.Also what kind of sealant should I use on the side to keep water from getting in the holes where the rivets pulled out.Thanks .
Do you have any idea what is inside the trailer behind where the rivets pulled out? Can you make a plate out of metal, paint it and bolt thru the wall and use acorn nuts? I would make sure to use stainless steel screws/bolt, nuts & washers. As for caulking, I would use a rope putty and surround the holes while the arm is pulled away and then tighten.
when one of my supports pulled out (old awnin), it turned out that there wasn't anything behind it. it had been screwed into the thin fiberglass shell and a very thin piece on luan. hopefully urs is actually screwed into something solid.
i fixed mine by going in from the bottom and putting a metal plate in there. that isn't hard to do at the bottom.
i like dunnnc's fix. wish there was a less visible way...
by any chance do u have cabinets over the area where it pulled out (of the outside wall). if so, it would make the fix easy to hide.
