Awning Support Arm Bracket

I purchased and installed a Solera Awing Topper for my RPod Slide Out (R179). I installed the support arm brackets on the slide out, but the screws did not hit any reinforcement. I followed an online video for the installation. The screws have now pulled away from side of the slide out, and the bracket is loose. I called Forest River for advise. Forest River said that there isn't reinforcement member to screw into. For this reason, they do NOT recommend installing a topper. I still think a topper is a good idea.

I am thinking of using hollow wall anchors (such as a snap toggle), but not sure what type to use. Any suggestions?
