Disturbing discovery on slam latches

My 3 day old Crusader has a stuck lock on one of the basement door slam latches...could not reach it from inside....then I discovered how easy it is to break in to it by simply pushing up on the latch through the opening with a thin screwdriver....BAD design IMO.

Same as a regular home door latch, once you get the little lock pin pushed back, you can do the same thing.

Yep...I never take locks on a camper seriously, more peace of mind than actually keeping your belongings thief proof...more like nagging the thief!

Cheap locks and latches keep honest people honest and that's about all they do. My favorite lock failure design was all those U loop hardened steel bicycle locks we had as kids to keep our 10 speeds safe. A bic pen could open the those.

At least you're one step ahead of the 751 keyed locks that most RV's have on them...

When I get set up all the compartments are unlocked for the duration of the stay. When we pack up, I lock up for the next travel. Never have had a problem with theft.
