The serial number is usually on the roller tube but since you can't fully extend the awning you won't be able to see it. There might be a label on the awning fabric in one corner if it is extended enough.

You might get more expedited handling if its one of the recall motors.

You can find the Model and S/N directly on the awning tube or fabric (not the sticker on the hardware). We will also need the VIN# if your awning falls under the recall. If it does not, we will direct you to Warranty. One way or the other, we will get it repaired for you.

Please call 888-447-0003 after you get those numbers and we will determine if it's one of our recalled units or not.

Thank you!

Just my luck, my awning had difficulty extending and retracting last week on my 2013 Windjammer made in January, 2013. That's just out of the recall date range and so's my serial number30195xxx.

After I retracted it for a rainstorm, it suddenly had movement difficulty the next time. The motor would barely turn either way and my friends had to pull/push the struts to slowly deploy/retract the awning. The fabric appeared to be spooling out/in evenly with their help on both sides.

My dealer (RVstation, Bryan, TX) thinks it may be a voltage issue since I said the motor would still barely turn enough for me to retract it with my friends help. I was on shore power, and power slides, power stabilizers and power jack all behaved as usual on 12 volts. Maybe it's the awning switch.

I took it to my dealer today because I didn't want to chance opening it again to recheck voltage at the connector on the strut.

So, I guess I don't get to be on a fast-track like you unlucky (but really lucky) recall guys. No clue if it's just in some kind of bind, bad motor, bad switch, bad wire, a one-time fluke... never thought my first big issue would be a Dometic product.

If your awning is not under the recall, but it is newer, it should be covered under warranty. You should call Dometic Warranty line at 800-544-4881 to be sure you get the best support.

Thanks Angie, I called 800-544-4881, explained I had a problem with my Dometic power awning and that I took my RV, manufactured in January 2013, to my dealer for service on Sept 3, then read the representative (Dave) your message.

Dave explained that there was no need to call the Dometic warranty number because I already took my Windjammer to a RV dealer for service. Dave said my dealer will take care of everything for me.

I don't think this number affects support. I'll post again after a week or if the warranty service is complete before that.

I am glad you are getting taken care of. I just wanted to be sure you had the number for warranty as well, but the dealer will call us for the part and take care of everything, Dave is correct.

My dealer looked at my power awning today. Of course, it did not have a problem extending or retracting. So, now I don't have a service problem but a mystery.

Picked my Windjammer back up. Have operated my power awning several times today and it worked fine just like it has for the previous seven months.

Mental note, the next time I drop my trailer off for warranty service, we are going to duplicate an issue before I leave it there. I do that with my vehicles, boat or tractor, don't know why I didn't do the same with my RV.

Perhaps the only way to know for sure is to dismount the motor and look at it- the defective motors are a two piece design held together by a large plastic type of shrink wrap - And the replacement motor is an all metal unit- no plastic shrink wrap body.
