Door flies open when driving

The door has opened twice on our trailer while driving down the road. Both times it happened it was when we were on the interstate. The door handle was locked but not the deadbolt. I know the solution is to lock the deadbolt too but what would cause a locked door to fly open like that? Has this happened to anyone else?

Locked or not, the door should not come open while driving down the road. It should only open when you intend to open it with your hand. Sounds like the chassis is flexing too much. Not good. Needs attention.

It has never happened to me. During my PDI the dealer told me to always lock the deadbolt when towing. It makes since because of all the flexing an RV does while going down the road. You may be able to adjust your striker plate a little bit.

i never travel with just the latch locked. heard too many stories of how the trailer flexes while traveling and the latch will not hold it in.

always travel with the deadbolt locked.

As others have stated, one of the things my dealer stressed during the walkthrough was to be sure the deadbolts are locked while towing. Since they made such a big deal of it, I assume it must not be all that uncommon for a door to come open during travel.
