Door glass

I have a '07 Sandpiper 5th wheel, and while it was parked in my driveway the walkin door glass cracked across the center of it?? I thought that it was supposed to be tempered glass from the factory?
I stopped at our local glass shop and he said it would be illegal for him to put that type glass in - it would have to be tempered.
Has anyone else had this happen?
I will contact the factory to see what is used for replacement glass.

Yeah, it's strange it's not tempered glass. I launched a rock cutting the lawn right thru our old Jayco TT front door glass and after I found out the cost of a replacement, I bought a small sheet of 3/8" frosted Plexi-glass and cut it out the size of the opening and Voila! done. The door was far less heavy after the mod too.

Had my door window broken. Wanted different glass installed. Auto glass installer quoted $75 plus cost of "special" glass. Ordered replacement from dealer for $12 plus shipping and installed myself.

There are a few threads here about door glass replacements including custom beautiful stained glass inserts.
