Door holder "thingie"

Hi all,

I have a 2004 Flagstaff pop up. There's a latch on the bottom of the door that is used to hold the door up when in storage on the ceiling. The latch has become loose, and tends to spin when the door is installed, making it difficult to open/close the door properly.

How do I go about fixing this?? I can't see any easy way to tighten this.

I'm fairly certain that on my popup, it was fastened with a rivet. There appears to be a lot of advice on the internet for suggestions on tightening rivets but I think I would just replace it.

Rivers are handy for fastening. ONCE.

Not so much for turning your plastic piece all the time. It will loosen.
Try a screw instead......or not and bolt with nylon fasteners.

Many pop rivets can be removed and replaced with a new one. Use a drill with the appropriate size bit to drill the center of the pop rivet. You need to find a way to grip the pop rivet with vise grips so it doesn't spin and drill slowly so as not to melt the plastic clip. Rivets and backer washers are made in various lengths and diameters. They are available from walmart and hardware stores.


I keep a set at home and one in the camper.

Drill out the rivet and replace it with a stainless steel bolt and nylock nut.

if you only want to tighten it up, you could wedge and wrap some line at the base. It is not fancy but it will work. Otherwise, drill it and replace it with bolt and lock nut.

Thanks all - I ended up using some wax dental floss to tighten it up, and it seems to have worked for at least a temporary fix.

Hesitant to try to drill it out without being able to find a replacement part for the plastic bit in case I screw it up.

Is your plastic part partially broken? If so, maybe this part would work for you if/ when the floss wears out.
