Door Latch Rust, Outside Kitchen

So, it's been 2 years since we last took our camper out. We store it indoors during the winter months and outdoor all other times. When we took it out this past week we noted rust in the outside kitchen door latches. The "striker plate" portion of the latch is almost completely rusted away. I'm wondering if anyone had experience with this issue. Curious if it is an issue with a seal somewhere that I can replace. Any suggestions welcomed. (Sorry no pictures, it's 2 hours away from me).

You must be getting moisture on the compartment latches, I think I would clean them or replace if actually rusted thru and then ensure they are clean and dry prior to storing your rig. Be careful of the products you use to clean that area some can be very corrosive to metal. Just my thoughts

Thanks Seadog. We use camco rv cleaner from Walmart so I don't think we are too corrosive (I hope not). I'm wondering how I could be getting moisture in there. Could I have a bad seal somewhere?
