Fans and Vent Covers

New RV owner, 6 months. We purchased an FR3 in October. Currently we have 1 vent in each of three areas, bed, living and toilet area. We don't have any vent fans, just original vents with vent covers.

We live in the south so we have to rely on AC in the Summer more than in some other regions.

Should we invest in a vent fan? If so, what room, and typically how much do people use them?

Also, are the vent covers a good idea or waste of money?

Thanks

Grotto

IMHO vent covers are such a good idea they should be standard on all campers. I'd recommend MaxxAir. They are very easy to install. If it were my camper and I had to choose just one I'd have a fan in the living area. Seeing as you rely on AC so much in the summer you might want to get some vent pillows to help keep the cool air in. DW made ours from some 2" thick foam rubber covered with fabric. Camping World sells then too.

Should the vent open all the way after you install the vent covers? I went to install the vent covers today and with the vent open all the way the cover would not fit.

MaxAir2 covers for the Bath with a Good fan not the Factory 4 blade Joke! The lids do not need to be totally open to work proper with MaxAir2 covers. Covers come standard on (Some) F/R units! Youroo!!

No, with the cover installed the vent will not open all the way. The trade off is you can keep the vent open in the rain for fresh air.

I installed one Fantastic vent cover over the bath room vent and I liked it so much I bought a second Fantastic cover and installed it over the vent over the bed. You can leave your vents open in all kinds of inclement weather. It comes off very easily to clean, remove 4 cotter pins. If you have a Fantastic vent, the Fantastic vent cover goes in the same holes making it easier to install.

I live in the south as well. I think the covers are a good idea because they allow me to keep the roof vents open all year, even when parked in storage. Keeps the interior from getting too stale. Its also nice keeping them open at night when we're camping without worrying about a midnight rain shower!

I installed the basic covers from Camping World - couldn't see the benefit of spending extra on some of the other models.

I still have the stock bathroom fan. Works fine for us.

Installed regular Max Air covers on all 3 vents including the bathroom vent with the fan. See no need for the special cover as the vent fan works just fine with only a regular cover.

I installed the Fan-Tastic 4000 3 speed:Fantastic Vent and Vent Parts for Sale - PPL Motor Homes

And the Fan-tastic ultrabreeze cover.
http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/r...vent-cover.htm

The vent lid raises fully and does not touch the cover. They are designed to work together.

I too installed Maxxair covers on our vents without fans and the installation was easy - like them a lot!

However I just ordered another for the bathroom where there is a fan and I am not sure how to get the brackets installed since the fan shroud prevents me from accessing the inside. Any assistance on doing this? Remove the fan?
