Looks like it'd work. I have a set of those laying around from several RV's ago. The hook you made almost looks like a piece of an old awning pull rod.

It's a pc of alum rod I had laying around. Gotta keep the wt down or the wt police will get me.

Aint that the truth. I don't throw away a whole lot for that very reason. That "just laying around" stuff has been the one piece I needed several times.
Since I mentioned awning rod, and I got several laying around, I might just sacrifice one of those for that purpose.

It has been working fine, used it 3 or 4 times in FL the last 2 yrs and contrary to what some folks said or thought, no ill effects on the awning.
