Power Awning Tie Down?

Is there a way you can secure the power awning while travelling? I have read stories where the power awning has unrolled while in transit and I would feel a lot better knowing that it is secured manually as well.

I use the same velcro tie straps with my power awning as I used with my manual awning. They're less the $10.00 at CW.

The vertical awning frame member that's rivited to the side of the trl has a very small gap between it and the trl side. I just slipped the velcro strap thru the gap and then around the arm assemblies and straped them tight to the frame member. Like you would with the manuel awning arms.

The velcro straps will keep the arms in the stow position, but if for some reason or other the motor releases the tension on the roller, the awning material will still unroll and become a sail. There are roller locks available that actually contain the roller to prevent this and likewise hold the arms in the process.

The vert. awning frame member thats riveted to the side of a (Smooth) side trailer should be tight (No gap) between it and the wall. If there is a gap,space the rivets were not put in properly or delamination is occur ing. Now if the trailer is a corrugated siding there is a space for the strap to pass thru. Youroo!!

Here is how I lock my power awning for transport. It is very simple and effective as it locks the roller and cannot be turned even by the motor.

Simply drilled the end of the roller @ the end of the slot on the motor end and tapped it for a 3/8-16 UNC bolt, made a tab and screwed it into the hole/slot. Made a hook with a turnbuckle and fasten the top hook in the roller tab and the lower hook is under the bottom of the wall support and tighten the turnbuckle.
