Product to clean awning

After 6 months in storage there are unsightly stains on the underside of my awning caused by rain seeping in from the edges when rolled up.

Two questions:

#1 what is the best product and method to manually clean it?

#2 how to stop the water from doing this when rolled up?

I used this. Worked well, but you need to rinse it off awning and sides after cleaning.

Clean with Simple Green, let dry, then use Wet and Forget as directed on label. Easy Peasy.

Just a thought.......

Is there any way to bag the ends of the awning when it’s rolled up for long periods of time......obviously like in storage as you describe? You seem to indicate you’re convinced the water gets in from the ends.

Just sayin’

Yep! That’s what I will try. Got to do something to stop this from happening every time it’s rolled up! Thanks!

I’ve seen where some folks take a 2litre Pop bottle and cut the top off and slit the side to be able to slide on each end while rolled up. Don’t think this will work for moving down the road but might help for long term storage.

Mold removed from awning

I used a product from Lowe's the you use to clean the mold from Vinyl siding.

Comes with a end of the hose sprayer. It has a clinging agent in the solution
so it will cling to the surface of the awning.
If you have a B.J's Club near you, B.J.s has two gallons for about 1/2 the price as what Lowes charges. Located near the light bulbs & motor oils in store.

It is the nature of the beast. Just one of those things you have to deal with. I use Mr. Clean or Spic 'n Span with a telescopic soft bristle brush to clean it as needed. "Bagging" the ends seems like it would be futile. How would you fasten the bags around the awning roller tube? One trip down the road and it would look like a garbage truck.

All interesting thoughts and ideas. Guess it’s a trial and error method for sealing the rolled up ends. With an electric awning a pop bottle isn’t going to work and neither will a baggie. Probably just going to have to repeat the cleaning process more often. Thanks to all!

Which Wet and Forget product do you use? Outdoor?

Hello. I believe read on this forum that the method the member used was to take an appropriate circumference sized sized pvc pipe, slice it length-wise and insert over the rolled up awning. I haven't tried this yet since I cover my trailer during winter.

OUTDOOR. Why would you use Indoor ? The Indoor is used for mainly showers. Don’t overthink this, it’s easy. Just use as directed in instructions. I have used it for years. No mold or mildew, but it’s not going to keep dirt off awning for you. You still must clean it , just part of regular maintenance.

moshe1436,

Buy a section or two of "K" style vinyl rain gutter (comes in 10 ft. lengths) from HD or Lowes and invert over the whole awning. It will protect the awning from the sunlight as well as the rain. It should hook to the gutter near the roof. Just take it down before you drive off. Good Camping ... Swampy

The most ingenious method yet! I will need two pieces to cover the entire length of my 14’ awning. Probably overlapping them at the joint. And then another couple long items to store somewhere.

I have the same issue but not as bad as your picture. I found that most of the water gets in from the ends but also after spending the weekend in rain with it out there are leaks along the middle as well. I would be concerned capping it on the end so I would cut drain holes in the bottom of whatever you do just in case you have the same problem I do.

To clean it I just mix bleach and water (1 to 10 mixture at most), spray it on with yard sprayer or bottle and then roll it back up for about 15min (two beers) then open and take one of those flat floor mops and dry it off. For the stubborn spots magic eraser worked well but I didnt want to spend the whole time on a ladder when beer could be had.

Best of luck and share any solution you come up with that works.

Dollar Tree cleaning supplies. LA Awesom $1.00 per bottle. Best cleaner on the market. Most won't buy it because it cost $1.00.

Are you talking about the Awesome Orange cleaner, or just the "regular" LA Awesome cleaner (I think it's a yellow liquid in a semi-opaque bottle)? DW uses the Orange cleaner and swears by it. I've also used it on a few things, and it is good stuff!!!
