Question re Awning riveting.....

Am planning to rivet awning fabric to the roller tube to eliminate the fabric sideways travel which often happens. Is there anything inside the roller tube,( such as the motor assembly, for example) that I need to be aware of when drilling the holes at each end of the tube for the rivets ? Don't want to be drilling into something important

Thanks in advance.

My awning just has a small self tapper screws at each end, thru the strand tails that go thru the roller tube. My awning has about 2" of tails and the screw keeps it from moving side to side.
