Removal of Motor on Lippert Awning

I need to remove the motor from my Lippert Solera awning. Either a gear has a bad tooth or their is a dead spot in the motor. Anyway, is it possible to remove the motor without the awning unwinding or creating some other unintended consequence?

I'm not familiar with Lipperts awning but, I do have experience with Dometic. Your awning may be "pre-loaded" to assist it retract. There may/should be a process to "pin" the roller so when you disengage the motor the spring doesn't unwind.
