Replace Storage Compartment Door and Frame

Through a dumb move, I really crimped the frame of a storage compartment door. Are the only things holding this in place the twin screws on the top and the bottom? Does the frame and door come out as a unit if I remove the screws? The compartment is by the front door of the passenger side of a 2015 Rockwood Roo 23IKSS. Any help would be appreciated.

I am in the same predicament. I have a storage compartment door that I severely damaged. I ordered a new door from FR. Now I find myself wondering what to use, besides screws, to seal the frame. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Replace Storage Compartment Door and Frame

Two screws and some tough caulk hold the unit in place. In replacing the unit, you need to use some RV caulk. That is all that I did. Make sure that you push the unit in to snug it to minimize how much it sticks out.

The screws sandwich the frame pieces together, and the factory normally uses butyl tape to seal the outside frame to the RV siding. Once you remove the screws you'll have to gently pry around the outer frame to loose it from the tape. You can then remove the tape/sealant residue.

You can get butyl tape at most RV stores, but you could also use polyurethane caulking to seal the frame to the RV, but be aware that if you use that, you'll have a real problem getting it off ever again.

1/2 inch butyl tape is cheap and plentiful at any RV store or online.
With Amazon's 2 day free shipping, you can order it here.

Once you have the frame reset, just run around the frame lightly with a razor knife to cut off the extruded tape.

Thank you very much everyone. I'll post a picture when I'm done.
That is unless I goof it up.

I just did this too

I want to thank those that came before me. I just damaged my door this week.

I took out my equalizer sway bars and leaned them up against the rig. I forgot about them and started to lower the tongue jack onto the TV.

Yep... those bars did not move. But they bent up the hatch frame pretty good. I hammered it just so I could close the door, but I want to do the repair right.

Thanks for the above.

To the OP... any last words of wisdom on your repair?

Curious as to your cost from FR on the replacement frame and door. I have a cargo door frame that got bent and I would like to replace it. I have heard of costs in the $500 range.

Wow... That would be pricey. I was just on a few 3rd party websites and they all seem to be at or below $100.
