Rockwood Factory Slide Toppers

Any thoughts on the quality of Rockwood factory installed slide toppers? We are shopping for a new trailer and the dealer installed Carefree brand toppers are two times as much as the factory installed toppers.

Aftermarket installed items are always more money than factory installed and very little of that has to do with quality.
It is simply cheaper to have it done as part of the build process.

We have the Flagstaff sister line and have the factory installed toppers.
Great product and covered by the factory warranty should anything go wrong.

I prefer no slide topper. I like to go up on the roof and give the top of the slide a good sweeping before closing up to make sure no junk is left up there and has the chance to squeezed through to damage the rubber gasket. My buddy had toppers and wind came through and junk got in between the topper and the slide roof and he had a hell of time trying to get that junk out after he finally realized that there was junk up in there.

Just my 2 cents.

They are a great item to have on your slides. I've had them on all my campers would never do with out. Yes its cheaper when installed at the factory. If dealer installed is worth it. Later RJD

I always carry a leaf blower with me. It is true that sometimes some debris will get underneath slide toppers. During the fall I'll use it to blow out anything that may have gotten under the topper. The most that's ever come out is a few leaves. IMO they are worth every penny you pay for them. Factory or dealer installed.

Slide toppers are a must if you camp where there are pine needles. Before I got a unit with toppers, was forever digging out needles around the slide seals. Last two rvs have the toppers, time better spent now. X2 on the blower can use on topper and is great in fall to clean off outside rug and around grill before lighting. Saw where Harbour Freight had a small electric one on sale for $29. Had picked mine up a Sears warehouse sale for about the same. Have loaned it to fellow campers more than I have used it however. Good Sam member, LOL!

A little less costly during the build but worth it either way. Only 2 or 3 suppliers and FR will use which ever is less costly to them at the time of order.

Topper

The factory topper is great!
Another advantage to a topper is it helps keep the slide out of the sun!
A little less heat on the slide really makes it more comfortable in this poorly insulated part of the camper.
