Solera (LCI) Awning Question

My apologies if this has been asked/answered before. I didn't see it anywhere after a quick search.

I have a Solera/LCI electric awning on my TT. During the PDI, the technician told us to make sure we pull down on the pitch arms of the awning to make sure they aren't in their normal, straight position before we retract it. Otherwise the thing would destroy itself.

We've made a habit of doing so, but I'm starting to think this shouldn't be necessary. Reading through the manual, I see no mention of needing to do this either.

Anyone ever heard of this, or do you do it before you retract your Solera awning?

Attached is a picture from the manual of the pitch arm I'm referring to. It's normally straight after extending the awning, unless you pull down on it to pitch the awning down on that end.

Thanks!

I have the same awning. Never heard of what you were told. I have retracted it way too many times to count with the pitch arms in every possible combination of positions. Never had an issue.

The only issue I’ve had with the pitch arms down is the interference with my head when walking past.

That doesn't matter. But what does matter is to make sure the lock-down knob is loose, not tightened down, when retracting.

On this particular style there are no lock down knobs.

Never had any problems retracting either even when one straight and one bent down. And to the head knocker problem, I cut a blue pool noodle down and it works great. Only cost a dollar also.
