Use of Sunshade on power awning
Well, it's been awhile since we had a new camper - this one, like most others, is equipped with a power awning. We had a nice 18' sunshade that fit into the groove of the awning roller and the older, mechanical awning.
My question: can we use the sunshade? My concern is that most of the downward force would be on the awning fabric, and not the arms like on the older style awnings.
Thanks!

Check out Shadepro. They make a section that slides into the awning slot and a zipper section that can be added. You do not need support poles they are made for electric awnings. My section in the slot is 4 feet long and it rolls up with the awning (my zipper add on is 6 feet long and is removed to roll up awning). Have had no issues with it over the last 3 years with numerous awning situations (sun, wind, rain etc.). It is not a cheapie but is well worth it to me. My awning is 20 feet.

Dometic awning motors that I've had won't even lift an 8' long x 6' wide sunscreen and I've even taken extra turns in the torsion spring. Also found out that I can't tighten the arms tight enough to keep the awning from creeping down without the poles especially if the wind starts making the awning jump.

Yeah but you "need" awning poles because if the wind pics up, your awning will end up over top your camper.
No need to retract awning when windy conditions exist or come up.

Looking at sunshades here as well. We severely restricted with cargo capacity as we have a 1/2 TV and will just use local trees found in the forest.

How do you load them and get them to stand up?

By your measuring my Shadepro is 18 feet long and hangs down 4 feet and is designed to stay attached to the roller (tube slot) Velcro secured on each end and rolls up and extends with the awning just like it isn't there. It's a Dometic (A&E). I do have the zippered 6 foot section as mentioned but as I said it is not designed to be rolled up with the awning. Just thought OP might look into it with some input from someone that actually has and uses one.

My sunshade is 2 pcs, 8' x 6' ea and neither of my A&E/Dometic awning motors would lift even one section even with the 2 or 3 extra turns on my torsion spring. I've seen others roll your type, but one section of mine should equate to a 16' x 3' which is smaller than yours. Must be a big difference in material weight. of the shades themselves.

Well, made specifically to be used with electric awnings as stated weight must be the answer.
