We are in a windy area and because of that I am running the electric awning in and out often when at most times I would like to leave it out. So I would like to support the awning in the extended position with poles then strap the awning down to our concrete pad. I see where folks have made their own supports out of 2 different size aluminum conduit but I have limited tools here. What commercially available support poles are there out there and what are your experiences?

I got a setup from Old Coot which is great and well worth the cost. But instead of using the lower brackets and leaving the poles on all the time I made some sockets that accept the large screw in ends of the painters poles from Home Depot. I then got a couple of good paint rollers from HD (the green ones) and cut the handles off. The handles are hollow so I filled them with epoxy. I then drilled holes in them and attached them to the upped brackets just like you would the poles you see people do. When I arrive at the camp site I get out the poles and screw them in. I also attach the hold down straps. I attached a small hook to each strap end and put it on the Old Coot awning bracket with one of those long reach grabber things. Works great and has held in 30+ MPH winds just fine. Side benefit is that I still have the unaltered poles to paint the high walls in the house and put up the Christmas lights.

Poles are adjustable from 6' 4" to 8' 10" in 3" increments.
