'13 3100SS MH slide assistance

We are getting ready to go on a long 8000 mile journey and given that there always seems to be a lot of chatter about slides now working I felt I would be smart to try manually run mine in.
So I purchased the socket that fits the drive end of the shaft. In my case the drive end is on the opposite end of the motor under the couch. Since one cannot get under the couch to manually operate the drive gears I had to make up an extension of 36 inches to get out from under the couch near the driver's seat. I attach a ratchet to the end of the shaft and cannot even budge the drive shaft. So whats up with this!
Can the drive shaft be run from the opposite end of the motor? It appears not. This is a real problem. Can anyone offer some direction on this?
