Do all slides click when they stop?
On our old TT, Springdale with Lippert slides, they would click when stopping in or out. Our new TT did that a few times but lately there is no click when they stop. Called dealer and he said these slides are different than the previous TT, these are cable drive, and they don't always click. He said the Lipperts don't always click either. Also these slides sound as though they are working harder to move the slides than our previous TT. Not having anything to compare except our previous TT I asked the dealer about that as well. He said again different system. Not that I don't believe him, ok maybe I don't, but thought I would ask here for input. Thanks in advance for your replies.

The Lippert slides with the rack and pinion drive mechanism clicks at the end of travel. It has a clutch mechanism to prevent damage. The other types I'm not familiar with.

The Lippert on our large slide clicks. The Schwintek on our wardrobe slide never does - just gets quiet.

Thanks for the info Scrapper, but the question that has always resided in my mind is: IF you run the slide in/out to the point of the clicks, does that create premature wear and tear on the clutch mechanism?
I'm always very conscious of stopping just before the click; the WD runs right through it and clicks it about 5-6 times.
I'd hate to have that clutch system break down....

I suspect it would take 20 years of daily use to wear it out... [emoji196]

We were advised by the dealer specifically to let the mechanism click in/out to make sure the slide has reached full movement. If stopping before the clicks, it is not fully in/out and not properly sealing.
We also have slides that no not click. We were told to keep the switch depressed for a couple seconds after movement stopped.

Now that my 5'ver is three years old I noticed that two of my three slides don't click as much as they used to.
However, it does it more when I'm plugged in to shore power than it does when I'm running them in or out on battery power.
The third slide is hydraulic, so it makes a strange whiney sound when it reaches the end in either direction.

My bedroom slide does not click but my kitchen slide does. I was told by service tech to keep the button pushed for three seconds on each after full extension/retraction to keep the motors synchronized.

My old trailer had a Lippert slide. After 3 years of clicking it stopped sliding - diagnosis: stripped gears. The tech explained that the gears are made of brass. $880 later and doing the repair myself on the road, I stopped with the clicking.

The clicking is normal. What hurts the slide is if you stop and start them when putting in or putting out. You should never stop half way any time always fully extend or retract without stops. This results in premature failure. From a seminar given at the Georgia Rally this year. Later RJD

And the Dexter axle factory engineer at an RV rally looked at my 5'ver and told me that my axles were bent...
Of course...he blamed me for overloading since they were still under warranty!
And the axle shop I took it to for repair said there was nothing wrong with them.
Turned out I had a tire separating, which is what was causing the tire wear!
I frequently put my slides out partially, especially during lunch stops on the road (kitchen is in the slide up against an island when closed), and they don't seem to show any signs of wear and tear!
