Dometic Toppers

I have not purchased as of yet. What are your pro and cons on the dometic Elite system? and is this something I can install myself?

Dometic Toppers

I installed them myself. Bought them from shadepro.net

Pros: extra rain barrier, keeps debris off the slide, slide out is cooler, elite cover doesn't add any additional function other than some UV protection (imo it looks better)

Cons: add weight, sometimes pricey, and some people claim they flap in the wind (I've never had this problem, even in high winds)

Bottom line: I will always have slide covers on any trailer I own.

If your RV has the rail on the wall already installed (a lot of them do) it's pretty easy to install the slide topper. You'll need a helper and a couple of ladders, but it's not a big job.

Be sure to measure carefully to ensure you get the right size.

Install Question

I have order the Dometic Deluxe and hope to be in the next couple of weeks. So I'm going through the personal install. My question is does the rail go below the rain gutter or is it suppose to go above the rain gutter. I'm sending pictures. Give me your thoughts.

I can't tell from the pictures, but does that gutter have a bead channel on it?
If not, the channel rail should fit right under it, or even replace it with the rail channel.

More uresPictures

The first two pictures are from the bedroom slide out, and the second are from the living room slide out. If I'm looking at this right the rain guards on both slide outs has a slot for the awning. Is that right or am I missing something? Give me your thoughts. It looks like I removed the rain spouts and insert the awning. East Guard is over four inches on both.

Send a message via Yahoo to bob caldwell
If I had an slide topper and it did flap in the wind, I'd design a de-flapper system for it like I've done for the electric awnings now being used

I still can't tell if the bead channel is there, but it looks like it could be.

Either way, you can add one if it isn't.
