Electrical switch slide out problem

Because the slide out switch is on the wrong side of the kitchen island I thought I’d add a parallel switch on the other side. I bought a switch from the local forest river dealer to use on my wiindjammer. I wired it up color to color one wire at a time. It works fine as long as long one switch is used but if both switches are plugged in when you press one switch the lights go dim and the slide out doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you have a couple of wires crossed at one of the switches.

Did you add crossover wires to the second switch?

Here's a diagram of how they should be wired. See if you think yours are wired like that.

I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the small danger in doing this. If you press one switch one direction and the other in the opposite direction at the same time you'll blow a fuse, or possibly burn up a switch.

My switch and wiring plug have only 5 lugs. I’ll double check the wiring but I did one wire at a time. I can’t figure out why one switch works ok but add the second one and nothing works and the TT lights go dim.

What type of slideout do you have? (LCI, Schwintek, BAL, etc.)

Schwintek slides only use three(3) wires to extend and retract. If you have that, I can make a drawing to match.

I'd love to see the specs on that switch. A picture of the side of it showing the data would be much appreciated.

To wire this correctly you will need two 12V 3way switches with mom-off-mom positions with a "traveler wire" between two the switches. Much the same as a residential configuration where 2 switches control a lighting circuit. The dimming lights are a product of a failed attempt at reverse polarity.

Thanks for the pics. Looks like they just supplied the one jumper, but they don't give you any info on their website about these switches, so they could be doing something funky internally. If I had it in hand I could figure out how it works.

Thankfully you already have it figured out.
