hydraulic pump prime

Hi folks,

Reposting since I didn't get a response in the Georgetown forum.

I just finished running new hydraulic lines, replacing a bad hydraulic cylinder and replacing all the seals on the my leaking pump.

All went good until I tried to re-prime the pump. Motor is running but I can't get it to draw any fluid.

Tried running it for 20 seconds and letting it cool for a while (6 or so times).

Anyone know of any tricks to help prime the pump.

PS- I'm pretty positive all of the hoses and wires were connected back to their original locations. I tagged them,created a paper schematic and took pictures.

Pressure relief valve stuck open? Crack open a line to help bleed air.?

Can you explain how far you tore down the pump and what seals you changed ?

Its a step by step of what I did, the only difference was that my pump was sealed. A good surprise since my pump was leaking from the motor side as a result of the coupler not having o-rings. I replaced it with a dual o-ring coupler that I ordered from Lippert.

The motor has three o-rings other than the coupler. The oil seal I replaced with a new one that I ordered online (HARWAL 10x22x8). I searched the local hardware stores, hi and lo, for the other ones with no luck. I did finally find a local shop specializing in o-rings where I purchased the one for the pump shaft and reservoir. I re-used the one that looks like a flat washer since it looked okay..

Everything went well until I tried to charge the lines. The pump is supposedly self priming

On Friday, I am going to try and hand prime the lines and cylinder in an effort to reduce any air locks.

Crossing my fingers as I am a bit frustrated at this point.

That was good info in that link the only difference I see is that you replaced your hydraulic lines therefore it will take you longer to bleed. In your frustration just remember to let the motor cool down between bleeding and keep the batteries charged as low voltage is hard on the 12 V motor that runs the pump.
