Question Installing a Carefree Slide Topper Awning. Does this look right?

I purchased a Carefree of Colorado SOK II Slide Topper awning and have a question about the universal brackets that attach to the wall of the slide out room. The instructions read to install the brackets as indicated below.

This would place the bracket on top of the vinyl trim molding that runs horizontal along the roof line and vertical down both sides of the face wall on the Wildcats.

I spoke with a local RV shop and looked at other Wildcats with slide toppers. The RV shop said it was acceptable to mount the bracket just under and next to the vinyl molding. This also appears to be how it is done on the other Wildcats I have looked at. So I installed them as below.

The 7 #12x1" TEK screws that are used to fasten each bracket to the sidewall don't seem to grab snugly. Is this seem normal? I used sealant around the bracket and in all the screw holes. I'm nervous that the screws will not hold.

I'm looking for some feedback from others. Does this seem correct? If you have a slide topper on your Wildcat, is this how your brackets are installed?

Thanks!
