Lubrication on Slide out gears

Is it recommended to put grease or dry lubricate on drive gears on slide out? The gears are rusting and I know they will have to be replaced as they get weak and end up breaking.

You want something that won't attract and hold dust and grit so
normal grease is out.
Some folks recommend silicone spray but if you read these 2 threads
over on the Woodalls discussion forums you see those folks are getting

I use the gear/slide lube on the rack and pinion and the other spray can that you can buy to spray the slide seals, both do a good job and are about 12.00 per can

Finally, I see people saying ... YES .... lubricate the slide gears (and rails).

When we picked up our 2302S last year the dealer emphasized the importance of lubricating. They even specified what I should use. It’s made by a company called Protect All and the product is called Slide-Out Dry Lube. They have a web site at www.protectall.com and it looks to me that the product is available right across North America.

I've seen many posts saying NOT to lubricate, even quoting the Slide Manufacturers guidelines. A couple of weeks ago, when I was at the Dealership I brought the matter up again and the Service Tech just shook his head - saying he wished the engineers could see the condition of the units he has to work on where no lubrication was used.

Protect All also sells a specific lubricant for the Slide Seals as well.

I use both.

While camping this weekend I tried a dry lubricant made by DuPont, it's called Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant. I used it on both sets of steps and the slide out and even on the stabilizer jacks, It works great, the slide out had no drag and was very smooth and quite, and it is made in the good old U.S.A.

I use Jig-A-Loo, a dry silicon spray and have been very satisfied with it. It has eliminated the squeaking. I tried the slide-out lubes like those sold at Camper's World and wasn't satisfied with the results. This product can be found at Wal-Marts for one. They also have a web site.

i lube mine with a good quality light grease,
not to much mind you but enough to keep things rust free and squeak resitant.
mine dont get gritty, i have teethed a few shirt backs on em

but i am a corrosion nut so the rig gets a good cleaning and lubing regulary

I use the dry spray lube from Walmart. I never subscribed to the notion that you weren't supposed to lube the slide gears.

Grease would be worse than not lubing in some cases.

Anything with a teflon coating should not be subjected to any petroleum product as it will swell it and cause bigger problems than it cures.

A PTFE dry lube is good for lot's of things.

I went to a seminar at my Rockwood dealer last Saturday and the tech said to use wd40 on the two gear mechanisms then just squirt some motor oil into them and they would be fine. As far as the two cogs, he said to just remove any rust with a wire brush. You can buy all the fancy sprays but it isn't necessary he said.
