Oops, Blame the DW

Extended the slide-out at the campground, suddenly stopped and higher pitch motor sound.

The slideout was not fully extended, then checked around the inside, saw a small pillow between the casing and the wall and removed it.

Tried the button and just motor turning. Looked under the sofa and one of the two shear bolts was missing. Found it and went to the local very small town hardware store and replaced with a standard grade 2" 1/4-20 bolt and nylon lock nut.

Now, question is "should I replace the new bolt with another lower grade and anyone know the grade?" I would expect we want it to break in case the DW does it again. Also, a good idea to replace both since one failed, the other is probably stressed too?

The temp fix worked, as the slideout extended and fully retracted against the wall in both cases. I am surely glad they built in a failure mode.

I am guessing grade 5, but check for markings. Did you see any lines on the top of the bolt?

Waayy out of line on the "Blame the DW" ... I would b$tch slapped for that one. Just make it rule to check each slide before it gets extended fully. Make sure there are no obstructions, etc. Good thing no major damage and you were able to find something which fit.
