repair of out-of-square slide

We own a 2015 Forest River Sunseeker, Model 3010DS.

On our Aug. 2018 vacation, we noticed that the gasket on the driver’s side slide-out was torn. Our usual RV mechanic said this was beyond his capability and he referred us to a coach specialist company (CS). We delivered the RV to them on Nov. 20.

The CS Customer Service representative eventually told us that the slide was significantly out of square. We cannot prove that the problem was a manufacturing defect or was caused by something we did, like accidentally drive a short distance while the slide was out.

The Customer Service representative said that to prevent the new gasket from tearing, the slide had to be squared up. He said they would have to remove and reinstall the slide to do the work. The slide was squared up by adding two L-shaped corner braces at the top inside corners. After reinstalling the slide, their mechanic tried to make an adjustment and stripped both adjustment bolts. The Customer Service rep said he called Sunseeker to get new bolts but that Sunseeker told him those parts are no longer available and that we would have to buy a new track system (cost $2,500 to $4,000!). The Customer Service Representative said he could have two new bolts manufactured at a cost of $350. Which we would have to pay, even though the bolts were damaged by CS staff! We instructed the Customer Service rep to use fixed bolts, at no additional charge to us. He said that this solution would allow us to use the slide in normal operation and that the new gasket would not tear. But there would no longer be adjustment bolts.

Our bill for all of this is over $3,500. We are not happy at all! Has anyone else had to square up their slide-out to avoid tearing the slide gasket?
