Les has a different slide mechanism just removing the power will not work on your slide. The motors on the schwintek slides are computer controlled. You need to know were the controller is because it will give you error codes to help you trouble shoot the problem. There is also a way to override the controller. It sounds like the tech you have working on it is not very familiar with the schwintek.
I have the Schwintek motors/slide assembly. If the motor(s) are shot and will not work, using the 'over ride' will not move the slide. The motors (I was told) 'lock' (Brake) in place when there is a current to them. the 'over rides' are used when trouble shooting moving errors, ect. As an example the motors get out of sync going in or out or do not go out all the way or come in all the way. IF the slides are all the way in, it is very difficult to get to the locking/holding screw on the motor(s) in order to lift the motor up out of it's normal position. To unlock the 'brakes' on the motors ., current must be stopped from going through the motors. this will allow the slide to be moved by physically pushing out (or in if needed). Once the current is restored to the motors a braking action will happen. I have been told that if you are pulling the camper down the road and do not have battery power or the unit is not plugged in to the truck (ie. 12v current) (and is not braced in from the inside) the slide could 'slide out' on its own.

Les please show me were in the manual it says to disconnect power to get the slides to move. If you read my answer I never said the override could be used if the motors are dead only if there is some other error.

Interesting my manual only talks about disengaging the motor to move the slide in. Will have to save the instructions you listed.

I have looked at a lot of schwintek slide videos, as I have had some issues with my main slide since the very first day that I have had it... (my unit is at an RV repair place right now because my main slide is not working correctly again). In all of the videos, all of the slides seem to be out at least a foot or so, which makes getting to the set release screw easier. I called schwintek and asked them on how to get to the set screw that is out side, but covered up by the slide trim. Do I take the slide trim off? I was e-mailed the short trouble shooting list and was told to disconnect the power to the motors and they then would move freely. I was told that the motors must have some type of braking on them or the slide could potentially rattle out while going down the road. voltage activates the braking.

If I said anything that seemed offensive, I did not mean too. Sorry.
