Slide Gears Stripped

I just bought a 2010 R Pod and took my first trip with it. The person I bought it from had only used it one time because her husband had died. When I ran the slide out, it made a popping noise and then would not come back in. The motor runs but apparently the gears have stripped out. I had to crank it in manually and was wondering if this is a common problem.

Could be if the slide wasn't used for 5 years the mechanism was quire stiff and overloaded the system. Normally however a "shear pin" is used that will fail in overload to save the gears. If you need to have a mechanic check the shafting and drive gear(s) for this failure.

If you can successfully crank it in manually aren't you driving it through the slide motor gear box? I looked on line...it appears that year was an 'above the floor' electric slide...the new ones are now Schwintek 'in the wall' slides. As it's above the floor, the drive mechanism should be inside the camper...under a cabinet, sofa whatever depending on your floor plan. Can you do more investigation?

I have it fixed now. The repair shop said the motor would spin, but the gears were stripped. Cost: $206.
