Slide Out Motor Overheating

I retracted my slide and made a short drive for water and dump black and grey water then returned to our campsite, when I went to extend my kitchen table/couch slide I could smell an odd odor. When I touched the the switch it was hot to the touch. I went to check the slide motor and burned the tip of my finger when I touched it. I then also noticed the wiring was hot and it could be felt from the ceiling.
I currently have the unit at home, main power turned off at the panel.
Was afraid of fire so left it on the hitch for a few hours.
Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Most likely your switch is defective and is always on "closed". Probably need to replace.

Thanks for taking the time to help.
By 'switch' are you referring to a switch on the motor or the wall switch.
I can do the wall switch not so sure I'd attempt the motor.

The slide will go in and out...but I'll replace switch anyway. Can't hurt. Unless I leave the power on while I do it.
If it's not the switch does anyone have a different thought?

I went out to check the switch connection...seemed okay with a volt meter.
I put the slide in and out a few times...no heating issue.
I'm wondering if maybe a cable had caused an issue and overworked the motor.

For me the way you described issue above points to a defective switch as you mentioned that it was hot, meaning current was flowing though it, same for motor, motor probably still energized, current flowing and heating up. What type of system do you have: Schwintek in wall motors or Lieppert with motor underneath trailer? Schwintek has control module as Lieppert does not?

Schwintek from your description...I'll try to look and see for sure...but it is centered above the slide in the wall and hard to access.

Schwintek has two motors, one on each side of the slide.....look at video

If only one motor on top of slider, it is a different system that I am not familiar with.

My welcome on the forum said there were a lot of good people on here...you are certainly one of them.
Due to my wife working nights I won't get to look hard at the motor or cables till Monday.
But thanks to this manual I think I can at least eliminate causes.

discovered a cable off.
This is fixed, I replaced the switch as slide would not move. I thought it may have burned out....apparently not.
When the switch is pressed there is noise from my fuse/breaker panel but no movement.
Anyone have any suggestions?

We haven't manually extended the slide yet...difficult to access...hoping for help tonight.

changed switch, motor would not work,disconnected trailer from shore power, turned off main power at breaker, turned main power on and reconnected shore power, in essence rebooted the trailer and whatta ya know slide motor worked...reconnected cable and everything is fine now!
Not sure how the power thing worked but I don't care really. lol

Well after much ado...I replaced the switch, reattached a cable that had come off the slide pull system, and all seemed well in the driveway.
Once at the campsite...no joy.
Brought the camper home AGAIN and after great difficulty got the slide extended to look at the motor only to discover that two wires had melted their insulation when the motor overheated and were now making contact.
I fixed this and so far have had no further issues.
I am installing an inline fuse (40 amp) to hopefully negate this issue in the future and perhaps prevent a fire. I say this because the wires heated to the point that the switch became hot. To me not a safe thing to happen.
