Slide out problems

I have a 2002 32' Forest River Wildwood and the slideouts look like they are pulling in to far. It has a one button operation for all three slides so we are not pulling to hard on them. The dealer stated that there is a bent stop in the slides and would need to remove the sliders to repair the problem to the tune of several thousand dollars for just labor. I went under the 5th wheel with a level and a laser and could not find anything bent. I did find the adjustments for the slides, cables on one no cables on the other. Any advise on adjustments and or if it seams like the dealer is selling me a bill of goods. Any help appriciated.

My slides rise about 1-2 inches when they are in closed/retracted position, I have been told not to stand or put weight on the slide floor when retracted because it is unsupported and can break away from structure.

Hope you can fix it

My slides rise about 2 inches on the inside as well- I wondered if anyone else had that happen. I have been extremely careful NOT to put any weight on the area when closed. That seems like the only way to get a proper exterior seal for traveling. Randy

Mine raise about 2 inches I guess I was not clear my concern is that the sides pull in about a 1/2 an inch past the outside of the 5th wheel side. I am afraid that water may start to leak around the outside seal. Thanks for the info.

I had taken my unit into Camping World as the slide was not completing a seal on the lower front and was out by 1-2 inches. After aligning the slide the tech turned a couple of nuts under the slide to fine tune the amount it came in. They said bolts on the slide rail were loose allowing the slide to get misaligned. It was taken care of under the Forest River warranty.

Personally, I would take your unit to another RV service center to get a second opinion and price. After seeing the tech mess around with mine, I most likely would not attempt the adjustment myself.

Have you checked at what point they pull in too far? I assume you have hydraulic slides & I assume they pull in one at a time. When the first one stops the next one pulls in till they're all in. Does it happen to one as soon as it pulls in, or do they all snug in too far right at the end of the operation?


Contrary to others, if you have found adjustments on all the slides, I'd adjust them myself. Measure the amount you adjust them and make sure you adjust both sides the same. Go a little at the time and do one at the time.
