Slide out support question

We just pulled in our new travel trailer.
It has two slide outs and one of them is 13 feet long.
We are snow birds and the slides will be out until we leave in the spring.
It appears that the 13 foot one has sagged a tad and I am thinking of putting an adjustable pipe support at each outer corner. I will just snug them up, (not raise them) to prevent any further sagging.
They are Lippert and the manual does not say anything about that.
I would like to hear from any one who has done something similar and did it work out Ok !

using slideout supports MAY void the slideout warranty.

you shouldn't need a slideout support for modern slideouts.
they are leftovers for the early days of slideouts, when they were a new technology.

i would contact Lippert before using them.

it would help if you posted year/make/model of RV you have.
or put it in your sig line.

The main problem with supports is that if you happen to have a leak in a tire, the trailer drops but the support will not let the slide drop and therefore damage the slide and the trailer.

You probably won't hear from someone who has done it. Almost never hear of anyone using them. Walk around any campground and I doubt you will ever see anyone using supports under their slides. I've only seen one or two people, usually new to camping..just not a good idea and can cause damage.

Hi Jack,

The reason it's slow getting the response you were hoping for is that this practice was pretty much abandoned long ago -- for all the reasons stated above -- and most probably few folks remain who have done it.

But if anyone has, I'd be interested in their report as well.

The only way I would even think about it is IF I pulled the tires off at a site where it would rot to the ground before it was pulled again.

Crib it up on all corners , pull the wheels off, side it up and put a pole roof over the top for snow load protection.

I guess we are in the very small minority who use them. If we are staying a week or a month or longer we will and do use them. If only a night or two we do not. I set them so they touch the gear arm snugly, not tight and use them on our two longest slides. Have used them as long as three months with no damage. Their use, to us, seems to take some more of the side to side roll out of the rig

When you set with them for any length of time you need to check them at least once or twice a week and also keep your eye on your tire pressure. Our fifth wheel is our home so I tend to be more conscious of this than other folks might be.

This is a subject that has alot of opinons-this is ours.

I used them but never stayed over 2 weeks and after reading some threads decided not to any longer. I go along with bikendan ask the dealer/maker

I agree. It is not the first time that I heard it may void your warranty and it may also cause damage to your slide-out. I have seen people put supports under their slides and just shake my head. Never mind the tires losing pressure but think of the wind rocking the trailer side to side. Don't tell me that the retractable bars on jacked up slides won't be damaged. If you are going to use supports, put them on the frame of the RV and not the slides. By the way, smart thinking on your part to check with the forum and find out information beforehand.

I am at a seasonal site and I leave them installed the whole summer without any issues. I use my 6 point hydraulic levers and the tires do not touch the ground so I don't worry about a tire going flat.

Volvoandgrump. does your RV manufacture recommend putting supports under the slide out when staying for a extended time? don't know just ask'n

Don't know, never asked. I will check with them next week and see what they say.

I use one support under each slide just snug them not lift slide.Takes a lot of wiggle out.I have Lippert 6 point level and they still lessen the wiggle.some of the coments made me smile,sound like a lot of space cadets out there.

Prior to putting supports there, I plan on putting a jack stand under the shakle of each wheel. Then I won't have to worry about a tire going flat.

I used them to stop the shaking in the trailer on my previous trailer. The one I have now has the self leveling system and it has the 6 point stabilizing so I don't need them. It made a big difference in stopping the shake. I never had a problem with them causing any damage. I had them on for three months at a time.
