Well we got it to the dealership safely this evening. I will be keeping the bars in the 5er just in case we have another issue in the future. Thanks for the help guys.

Thanks for the update. I keep telling myself that I need to make boards for just this purpose but like everything else- it is one of those things that I just don't get around to. I know my luck will have it that when I need them, I'll be miles away from the nearest lumber store.

I should just make them and store them under the bed. They won't be convenient to get to, but if I need them- I'll have torn enough other stuff apart any way.

Yeah, we were lucky in that we were home when the slide failed. If it happened at the campground, I would have had a much larger freak out over the trailer being stuck there. But then again, at least we would have had hook ups for AC instead of working on it in the heat (I don't have a house adapter for this trailer).

update

I wanted to post the resolution to this. We took our trailer in to our dealership, Bill plemmons rv in Raleigh. They got us in immediately. We had them fix the slide, the microwave (ran but didn't heat), look at a spider crack in the shower fiberglass, and fix the shower door handle that kept falling off. They had the trailer for 16 days. We picked it up today. I'm happy to report that both my dealership and forest river took care of things.

They replaced the microwave and used a urethane adhesive to hold the shower door handle. For the cracks in the shower fiberglass, forest river has approved a specialist to repair this. The dealership was having trouble getting this arranged and offered for us to take the 5er back for our use until this could be arranged. Since it is not causing a leak and we have some cosmetic issues to be resolved in the off season, we agreed to have this done during the off season as well.

The slide had a couple of issues. They found the slide mechanism was moving independently of the slide out due to sheared hardware at the floor. The tech resecured the slide actuator assembly back to the floor with more substantial hardware. They discovered that the wiring connection to the motor came loose when the slide mechanism had pulled away from the floor. The tech reinstalled the wiring so that it is now located in an area that it won't get pinched.

We plugged in to one of their power poles and tested everything (they had no issue with us doing this). Everything worked well. I think they might also have greased our steps as they were difficult to open and close when we dropped it off. They are now moving much easier. I think 16 days is reasonable for the amount of work they did. I am very happy with the repairs and wanted to give both my dealership and forest river their just due praise for making it right within a reasonable time frame. My previous dealership took forever getting repairs done, so already this is better. Thank you everyone for your help and words of encouragement during our time of need.
