I say no.
They will fade, stain, age, get brittle, crack, split and eventually be in such bad shape that they will need to be replaced.
Slide roofs (tops) can be swept, washed, treated, inspected and repaired easily without anything in the way. The seals can also be cleaned and inspected and repaired if needed.
My slide is 10 feet long. Good luck getting to the middle to give the slide top a good cleaning and inspection with a topper.
There are a couple new very nice class A's in the neighborhood. One has a slide that is at least 20 feet long - it has no topper.

If you use the forum search function on the top header, you'll find many previous posts on slide toppers. Here's some results from a search...

i have to politely disagree with Twisty.
we thought we didn't need one on our 12' slideout.
big mistake! one year later we're having CW install one, for a lot more than it would have cost us if we had it installed before we bought our HTT.

huge difference when we camp in wooded campgrounds.
in fact, the residue from the trees/leaves actually got on the seals of the slideout and adhered to the side of the trailer.
i actually had to get a butter knife to break loose the bond it caused to get the slideout open.
in the nearly 6 years since we had it added, that has never happened again, nor have i needed to climb a ladder to sweep off the top of the slideout.

well worth the money!

If you ask people who have had slide toppers of they would get them again, the overwhelming answer is "YES". Not everyone, of course but most.

Most of the time I hear people talk against them are those who have never had them (they may have had friends or seen others with them and saw negatives legitimately).

Not only do they help keep debris out but if it is really HOT, they will be a barrier between the sun and the top of your slide which really helps. I think they are great and we wouldn't be without them. Hugs, Di

I like them because it helps with the heat. We tend to camp in the south/southwest so it's typicall to have 100+ degree days in the summer. We have two AC units that keep up just fine. We have three slides that have the toppers so I'm sure it helps reduce the heat.

As others say it helps keep the gookus of the slides but for us it's for the heat.
