Slideout Removal

I own a 2001 Sandpiper 30FKSS that apparently had a leak somewhere in the roof or sidewall which has rotted the header over the slideout opening. I'm looking for any advice anyone has on removing the slideout so that I can make the necessary repairs to the header.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

JoeO138 welcome to the forum, sorry I do not have an anwser for your problem. Hopefully someone will have an anwser for you soon. I have used a mobile RV repair service, maybe one in your area can remove the slide for you and after you have made the repairs then have it reinstalled???

Sorry pal, this is way over my head. I would suck it up and find a good RV repair shop or make an appointment at FR for the repair.

If the initial quote is high enough you might want to look at a newer one.

If you crawl under the slide while open, you'll see the bolts holding the room to the push/pull arms. You will need HELP holding the room up, and you will need to remove the lip seal to get the room out. These things are bulky and heavy, so again, don't attempt this without some adequate help!! But it can be done. Randy

We got it all finished. Actually removing the slideout was probably the easiest part. Unbolted the cylinder and the arms at the slideout. We supported the room on some heavy duty saw horses with channel iron running between them. After unscrewing the stops on the inside we just pushed it out a little at a time until it was clear.

The header was completely rotten thanks to some missing screws in the rain gutter, probably from the factory. Didn't know they were missing until the insert trim was removed. I'll try and put up some pictures look like first attempt failed.

Joe, you might have to put them on a photo site like herk69's photos and albums on webshots

Webshots and link to there.
