Slider Maintenance

Replaced my first slider bottom track. Went easier than growing grey hairs over thinking of it. reviews on you tube is troubling in that sever floor rot occurs. Received the (weakest things ever) tracks left and right (29.00 total) from the RV dealer via UPS. Removed the exterior trim piece (6 screws) and then staples from the bottom of the broken plastic track. Brought the slider in about six inches. Then the fork and lever method, I raised the slider up 1.5 inches with a couple of 2X4s and a good size crowbar. Slid a block of wood under the slider to hold the height (from the inside) Pulled the remaining old track out. Slid the new track in place from the inside. You'll need to have someone hold the new track in place (Granddaughters are great for this) to make a trim off measurement (They are longer than necessary). I had to cut eight inches off the outer end. The track has existing double sticky tape installed so it will stay in place after trimmed. I did put a couple of staples in it to limit possible movement. Removed the blocks of wood. Extended the slider. Stapled the bottom of the trim, reinstalled the exterior trim piece (with new caulking) Done. Takes about 1.5 hours start to finish. Not all sliders have this POS trim and its easy to check for failure by running your finger along the exterior bottom corner. The other side already has a small hole that I put some rope caulking in it. Maybe tomorrow I'll do the other one.

Wouldn't it be nice if you included pics of the process? We ALL love pictures.

And be sure they are right side up when you post them.

Come on folks, let's give some encouragement!

11 and 12. Picture #8 shows a piece missing found in assembly on picture #11. with a little Acetone clean up, it all most looks like new....

Someone should tell me how to upload an album sometime.

Just couldn't pay $200.00 bucks per side to have the dealer replace them..

All in all it took about 2 hours to complete. I'll rate it 2.5 stars out of 10 on difficulty...

great job with the pics

Nice work replacing the wear strips. Many here have had to add strips to slide-outs for other reasons.

I'm in need of replacing both bottom wear tracks for the bedroom slide on our windjammer. Looks to be exactly that same as donanddona has and his post helped a lot to convince me that I can do it my self.

Where did you get the replacement parts?

Are there any options to what can be used? Something made of metal would be a better choice over what's currently used.

Thanks !
