Sorry I did not understand the issue, but herk came to the rescue, as he often does!
When they cut the plywood for this application, there is always one rough edge and one smooth one. Why wouldn't they put the smooth edge on top so this wouldn't happen? Or, better yet, quickly sand the edge?
Could it be that the factory simply doesn't care enough? Seems to be the case more often that not.
As for your spider cracks in the fibreglass, there could be something underneath pushing out. But quite often it just tends to do that. Unfortunately, there is no easy fix.
