Slides out before leveling?

When I had my new 36CKTS in for some warranty work including a sticking slide, the service tech told me to always put the slides out before leveling the trailer. He said the hydraulic jacks with auto level can stress the frame and cause the slides to bind.

Anybody heard of this before, or is he just blowing smoke?

Have not heard of that, but that doesn't mean it is untrue. I always level before putting the slides out. Just my preference.

bturner In my opinion if you are in a un-level state before you put the slide out, you have stress already on the slide and frame work, why wouldn't you want to level first to relieve this.

I have a 2015 Sanibel 5th wheel with the 6 point level up option. And the Service Mgr for Prime Time and the Repair shop Supervisor both told me the same thing regard the slides and the level up system.

That is, it is best to level the coach prior to putting the slides in or out. It is much easier on the slides when the coach is level. That sounds correct to me also rather than being concerned about frame flex on 12 inch thick beams when you move the slides.

The LCI shop foreman (maker of both the frame and the slides in my unit) agreed with this.

My manual says level first. Don't put stress on the slides if it's out of level. Makes the most sense to me, but hey, who am I ?

I have always leveled first and will continue to do so. It's just common sense.

If you were referring to my lake picture, it is in deep southern NJ, just south of Millville. A group of us purchased a sand dredging operation that went out of business. We keep our 38FL there full time until hopefully building a retirement home. Thanks for asking.

If your not level you are going to put strain on the system, do it enough times and you will have a very big bill. Don't quite understand that he said it less strain then being level. Try it, then you will see which way you want to do it. Thats a lot of hanging weight even for a level up system. When the slides are in your just leveling a box, with the slides open your leveling a box with the flaps open. If anything would twist your frame it would be leveling with them extended.

I've always leveled then put the slides out. I've never had a hydraulic leveling system though

My Monaco said to extend the main slide and level. But it made sense to me being it use air bags and jacks to level. My primetime it says to level before extending the slides, and I do just that.
