stuck slides - 2006 Cardinal
I posted this in the Cardinal section also:
Our Cardinal 33TSLE Fifth Wheel had the problem this week. We had spent a week at the beach and were now at home. We had the Rig opened up for cleaning, when I tried to bring in the slides (3 of them), they would not move. the Hydraulic pump that operates them was making a god awful grumbling noise. After thinking the pump might be bad and getting the truck hooked up in order to safely go about installing a new pump (I got a pump for a great price a few years ago), noticed the pump was working perfectly while hooked to the truck. What, so I take out the battery and put it on the bench to check the charge. It was fully charged. A little more digging and I found the problem. The ground cable from battery to frame looked ok, but was not flexible as it should be. I peeled back the rubber coating to reveal that the copper strands were corroded and coated in green powder. the ends look perfect but obviously the cable was shot. an $8.00 cable from Autozone and the rig and slides are working normally, and dare I say much smoother operation than before. We hope this is of some use to owners who may have similar issues. Just because the battery cables look ok, they may not be.
